So I should use --enable-real and --enable-win32 while building mplayer on my AMD64 box. After a short look into debian/rules, I inserted "with_real_and_xanim = true" and "with_win32 = true" lines under the line "ifeq ($(arch),x86_64)". I think it's a reasonable change, but it doesn't work, mplayer built without real and win32 a second time.
Later I happened to come to find that the arch string on my box is "amd64" instead of "x86_64"! that's the point.
