fontconfig would also use the 'width' information from the OS/2 table, but DejaVu Condensed has that set incorrectly. Given two fonts with identical names, fontconfig needs some way to tell which is the 'normal' font and which a variant. Fix the DejaVu fonts to report correct information to fontconfig, and it will happily select the normal setwidth font in preference to the condensed variant. -- [EMAIL PROTECTED]
