Package: debian-installer Version: 20061102 [ I'm not sure this is the right package, please reassign as appropriate ].
In sarge, the user had the choice of adding a security.debian.org line to /etc/apt/sources.list or not. This seems to be no longer the case in etch, not even in expert mode. I think this is a step backwards in flexibility. Just because an ethernet card was detected does not mean the system is in the same net as security.debian.org (i.e. the Internet). Please add a question so that (at least in expert mode), the user is asked whether or not he/she wants a security.debian.org line in sources.list. It would not matter if the line is added anyway in commented out form if the user answer "no", but it's important that a connection to Internet is not forced, because if it fails, (and sometimes the user knows that it will fail) the user will lose his valuable time while the system is trying to connect to an unreachable site. In my case, I know there is a buggy router somewhere between my system and security.debian.org, and I know the connection will fail unless I fiddle with some network options in /proc/sys/net/ipv4. More about this in another bug report. Thanks. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
