Icedove does not support DIGEST-MD5 authentication, so it fails on mail servers which support only this form of authentication. A patch exists, in bug 335924 <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=335924>; would you consider including it in the Debian package? - Josh Triplett
