This behaviour has been variously broken over the years, and it appears that
the upstream people have continued to ignore it. I'm afraid it's unlikely
that this corner case is going to get fixed, but, I guess it's worth another
forward attempt... we'll see.
In the meantime, I'll downgrade the severity of the bug to prevent it from
affecting joe's status in "testing".
