2-290-308145-7 is an interesting one. - It has the correct number of hyphens. - From the language code, I infer that it is a French translation of the book. - It has 11 digits rather than the required 10. - The check digit is valid. (I.e. if you perform the ISBN checksum algorithm on the 11 digits, the checksum is correct.) It seems that removing the final digit yields a valid ISBN. And, indeed, Amazon has "2001 : L'Odyssée de l'espace" by that ISBN. So in the ISBN on the book has an extra digit and has the final hyphen in the incorrect place. In this case, it would have been better for Alexandria to give you a message indicating the precise problem with the ISBN number. As for "La condition humaine", could you be more specific about what the problem is? I see at least one version of the book on the Amazon website which has an ISBN number, and searching in Alexandria yields several versions of the book. Which version is giving you problems? Note that a new version of Alexandria, 0.5.0, has been uploaded and should appear in unstable soon. It might be worth testing again with that version. If it's not in Debian by the time you read this, you can grab it from my repository at http://muse.19inch.net/~daf/debian/.
