Package: planet-penguin-racer
Version: 0.3.1-8
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

On start up of ppracer Xorg uses 99.4% cpu resources and ppracer gives
extremely sluggish response. There is approximately a 2 second lag between
moving the
mouse and the cursor itself moving during setup. This is happening on an HP
Pavillion laptop with a 2 ghz AMD Turion, an ATI XPress 200M graphics card, and
1 gig of
ram.

When ppracer is run inside a window rather than full screen I get normal
keyboard and mouse response outside that window. Other applications do not seem
to
respond sluggishly either even though "top" is reporting such high cpu usage.
It's just ppracer that acts extremely slugglishly.

I have both KDE and Gnome installed, but have only run ppracer inside Gnome. My
system is also fully up-to-date as I ran dist-upgrade just before installing
ppracer.
I have separate 32 and 64 bit installs on this same machine and ppracer acts
the same way in both environments. I have also run this with the "ati" kernel
module and
with the fglrx module. I installed the fglrx kernel using m-a and it provided
no performance improvement. I have also tried this with ATI's proprietary
drivers and
game performance was still the same.
