Package: emacs21 Version: 21.4a+1-1 Severity: normal When the variable `insert-default-directory' is customized to nil, completion breaks in the find-file and find-alternate-file commands. More precisely, it still works when there is a single suitable completion which is auto-inserted in the minibuffer; but when there are multiple choices, the completion buffer with the choices is displayed, but any attempt to actually select one choice, either with the mouse or by hitting Enter, leads to an error message "Text is read only". This seems to happen in the function `choose-completion-string' at the point where it calls `delete-region'.
