Have you had a chance to test the libnss-ldap fix I posted? Since all the evidence points to this being a bug specific to eDirectory, I'm going to go ahead and downgrade the bug. If you can confirm that this updated package fixes your problem (or if Stephen takes my patch on blind faith and uploads it :), it should be possible still to get this fixed for etch.
