Further information on running with java-gcj-compat-dev: You need to remove all references to libgcj.jar from the classpath. This means removing the line CLASSPATH="$CLASSPATH":"$JSSE_HOME"/lib/jcert.jar:"$JSSE_HOME"/lib/jnet.jar:"$JSSE_HOME"/lib/jsse.jar
