Just to make sure I understand you correctly: you don't need to use k3bsetup to use k3b ? I am asking because I am finding that K3bsetup is causing more problems than it is supposed to solve on Debian. I think that K3b on Debian should just be configured to work out of the box and not require any adjustments by an external program. I believed that the problem with using chmod directly is that these settings are overwritten once you upgrade to a newer version of wodim.
