Turns out that you'll get the box by taking 2 apples and saving the replay. To reproduce, in the doom level, take the first two apples on your left before saving the replay.

Long answer, 3 cases: 1) If you haven't taken an apple yet, replay will work no problem. 2) You've taken an apple but haven't done much yet¹, you'll get an "Illegal Instruction" error at one point and xmoto will crash. 2) You've taken an apple AND you've done enough¹ to meet the infamous box.
