Bart,

No problem!  I actually use pbbuttonsd, which can be configured to
suspend the computer when the lid is closed.  Its name is a bit
misleading, since it handles lots of power management stuff, including
changing "profiles" when the AC adapter is plugged in or unplugged.

I use the hardware "sleep" mode -- as far as I can tell, software
suspend isn't supported on ppc.
