Subject: mpg123-oss-3dnow dummy package does not pull in mpg123 if mpg321 is installed Package: mpg123-oss-3dnow Version: 0.61-2 Severity: normal
*** Please type your report below this line *** mpg123-oss-3dnow was once a binary package which provided a 3dnow optimized version of mpg123. This functionality is now provided in the main mpg123 package. As such mpg123-oss-3dnow was converted to a dummy package depending upon mpg123 to cause it to be pulled in. Unfortunately, mpg321 (as seen below) also provides 'mpg123', providing workalike funcionality and /etc/alternatives manpage and command symlinks. As a result, if mpg321 is installed when the upgrade to mpg123 0.61-2 occurs, mpg123 is effectively removed. Unfortunately I have no real understanding of what the correct action is to make the debian packaging system know this dependency wants the real package and and not just one that provides, or if the error is mpg321's, etc. Hopefully you do. Obviously I can manually fix my system, and will after this message. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.16-jsr Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ISO-8859-1) (ignored: LC_ALL set to en_US.iso88591) Versions of packages mpg123-oss-3dnow depends on: ii mpg321 [mpg123] 0.2.10.3 A Free command-line mp3 player, co mpg123-oss-3dnow recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
