severity 295270 important thanks After reviewing the full bug log, I see that there is no actual data loss caused by this bug, which had been my original understanding and why the bug was allowed to sit at severity: grave for so long. Since the index files can safely be deleted and regenerated automatically, I'm downgrading the severity of this bug.
