Package: xserver-xorg-video-nv Version: 1:1.2.0-3 Severity: critical Justification: causes serious data loss
Hi, this bug might be related to bug #394803, however it is much more serious. Since I have upgraded to my new Asus mainboard, I'm in trouble with the xorg nv driver (The nvidia binary driver works better, but for the known security flaws I decided not to use it.) When running the nv driver, I quite often find the machine completely dead at the morning (the machine runs permanently), it then has crashed at night and requires pressing the reset button. Strangely, this never happens at daytime, although I am longer away for business than in bed. I did not find any precise cause yet, so it was not even clear what part of the system is the problem. However, about bug #394803 (vanishing mouse pointer) I found, that the mouse pointer problem is gone when I do xset s noblank (Unfortunately, screen power saving is gone as well...) As far as I can see right now, the crash problem is gone also, when I do that. But when I run X without entering this command (I yesterday restarted for other reasons), the machine crashes again. So there is most probably a problem between the nv driver and this particular hardware 00:05.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation C51PV [GeForce 6150] (rev a2) regards Hadmut -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.17-2-k7 Locale: LANG=de_DE, LC_CTYPE=de_DE (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages xserver-xorg-video-nv depends on: ii libc6 2.3.6.ds1-7 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii xserver-xorg-core 2:1.1.1-10 X.Org X server -- core server xserver-xorg-video-nv recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
