This is very strange, I have attempted several upgrade paths in a clean chroot: Clean install of cron_3.0pl1-99_i386.deb: crontab has the setgid bit Upgrade from -97 directly to -99: same Upgrade from -88 directly to -99: same Upgrade from -88 to -99, by upgrading through all the interim releases : same Could you please show me the output of running: $ dpkg-statoverride --list /usr/bin/crontab Regards Javier
