As your bug report has already been filed in the CPAN bug tracker, I'm basically acknowledging this is a bug that the upstream author should consider, not Debian (that ideally deals only with packaging issues) - Unless the problem is severe, we strongly prefer to deviate as little as possible from the upstream code's behaviour, in order not to break compatibility with other non-Debian installations.
