It could be interesting to see your /etc/pam.d/su file (and the referenced common-* PAM files). Can you also try "su - root" from a root account? Can you try with only the pam_unix (and maybe pam_rootok) PAM modules? (those are IMO common and work nicely) Kind Regards, -- Nekral
