Package: gaim
Version: 2.0beta4

I'd like to propose two things in this e-mail (or actually 3 ;-) ):

First I think the gaim package partitioning should be done
differently. Especially since version 2.0beta4 the devision between
the gaim library packages and the frontends has been made much
clearer.
I think the Debian packages should represent this.
I propose to make a lib package, and frontend packages, so for now:
libgaim, gaim-gtk, gaim-text. The current gaim-data could stay like
that, but merging it in libgaim would be another possibility.

Next: Iceape and Iceweasel are going to replace firefox and seamonkey
in Etch, so I propose that you patch the Gaim browser links
accordingly. Whether you add a link or change the existing ones, is up
to you.

The gaim libs are currently placed in /usr/lib
I'm not sure why. Nothing but Gaim or the gaim frontends and plugins
use them. And they need a /usr/lib/gaim by definition.
I propose to move those files back in /usr/lib/gaim
This also requires a patch to the gaim path.

Of course I have already tried all of the above.
The result of this is available at: http://hjh.passys.nl
You can use the .diff to get the patches I propose.
Also: I build without cdbs. It drove me crazy; it's just too
complicated and messy with the changes made here.

cheers,

Hendrik-Jan Heins
