Package: oss-compat
Version: 0.0.4
Severity: normal

Hi,

Trying to install the new mplayer package from Sid into a Sid chroot, I
get the following error in oss-compat's postinst:

Setting up oss-compat (0.0.4) ...
ln: creating symbolic link `/etc/modprobe.d/oss-compat' to
`/lib/oss-compat/linux': No such file or directory
dpkg: error processing oss-compat (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 oss-compat
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
A package failed to install. Trying to recover:
Setting up oss-compat (0.0.4) ...
ln: creating symbolic link `/etc/modprobe.d/oss-compat' to
`/lib/oss-compat/linux': No such file or directory
dpkg: error processing oss-compat (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:

The oss-compat postinst fails because there is no /etc/modprobe.d
directory within the chroot. Maybe ship that directory in the .deb or
create it in the postinst before making the symlink? (Or depend upon
module-init-tools, which does ship this directory.)

Filing as severity "normal" since I suppose chroot issues aren't RC, and
a "normal" system would already have module-init-tools installed as a
dependency of a 2.6 kernel package.
