They solved a similar problem for other people.

These packages do fix the problem of the disk partitions in
hal-device-manager disappearing (they now *do* appear in
hal-device-manager). However, with these new packages the partitions
*do not* appear on my gnome desktop as they did in version 0.5.7.1-2.
Would this then be gnome related?
