Dear John I think this must be a GNOME problem. I don't have your problem when I start it without GNOME. Besides there's no gnome support configured/enabled in building the debian package. (no more wmaker-gnome packages are created).
Could you reassigne this bug to gnome or close it? Yours, Gürkan
