Looks like a font rendering bug, probably from the fontconfig package. Can you check which fonts you have installed, and which one is picked from Helvetica, Arial and sans-serif. Here, everything is correctly displayed. You may also want to check what kind of effect changing hinting and such parameters in fontconfig (dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig) may change the rendering.
