Package: xserver-xorg-core Version: 1:1.0.2-9 Severity: grave Justification: starting Xorg trashes partition tables
I tested Xorg on my Sparc Ultra 10 and experienced system freezes. When I rebooted after one of these freezes, the partition table of my first harddisk had disappeared making it necessary to install the system from scratch. The disk has never before shown problems and also showed no problems during and after the reinstallation. Jurij Smakov found the following bug reported by the Sparc upstream kernel maintainer. It seems to me that it could well explain both the hang and, because apparently it messes with the IDE controller too, the corruption of the hard disk. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8020 [...] And joy, oh joy, I have just discovered that after the last try the partition table of my second harddisk (that contained my /home dir) is now gone as well! So I'd say that proves the relationship between running Xorg and that problem. I have confirmed that I do indeed have the SIMBA Advanced PCI Bridge.
