wx-console had a number of bugs which were fixed, and unfortunately some of those required making non-downward compatible changes, which is inevitable. The .dir is in fact correct, but for it to work correctly, you must use the same Director version (1.38.x) and not an older version.
You will be better off running everything on version 1.38.11. I recommend closing this as a "not a bug" since we never can guarantee proper functioning of all components between different major versions (in general all 1.38.x components are compatible, but not 1.36.x to 1.38.x).
