Sylvain- I didn't notice your response. I left the problem because I was unable to get a resolution and stuck with Unison 2.9. I have since assumed the problem would be gone, either kernel or unison related issue, but it is not.
Quite some time has passed since this first came up. I'm now running unison 2.13.16-5 on a 100% Debian kernel 2.6.17-2-k7 and syncing with a computer with cygwin. Running a sync causes the linux machine to hang. There is nothing strange or interesting about the files I'm syncing. Its not a ton of data, maybe 200 MB. The filesystem on the Linux host is Reiser3.
