you are correct. The log of the last autobuild run for amd64[1] shows that the configure script was unable to locate the Xft header and therefore disabled freetype support (although all dependencies, including libxft-dev, were installed... strange hiccup). I guess the problem will vanish with the next package upload - just in case I'll test-build the package on an amd64 box on one of the next days. Thanks for your report!
