Package: tightvnc Severity: wishlist Most computer geeks nowadays are stuck behind NAT.
It would be great if TightVNC had some form of firewall tunneling built in, just like the www.logmein.com and GoToMyPC.com remote access services do. That means that even if both my PC and the target PC are behind different NAT routers, we will either use UDP STUN or some similar technology to break through the NAT, or UPnP to open the ports automatically, or perhaps we can find a third party who is willing to ferry traffic between us. (Maybe the Tor project can hook us up with such third party volunteers, or we can patch tightvnc to ask users if they are willing for their PCs to act as volunteer ferries.) All this would be fully automatic and require no thought on the users' part, just as it is with logmein.com -- the users would just type in the email address of the target user, and everything would Just Work(tm).
