Package: kvdr
Version: current
Severity: normal

Hello,

a co-worker just reminded me of something from my "old more active days"
as Debian maintainer: the popup message in kvdr wrapper. After rereading
it, after not beeing in touch with DVB development in the last years, I
must say:

that popup message is AWFULL!

 - the English is just broken
 - there is a bit too much information for beginners. Too many technical
details in the beginning, the real problem can be derived from
guessing what is meant in the long text there, but that is too
   complicated.

What the message should say:

"Error connecting to VDR daemon or could not start a dedicated VDR daemon.
Please consult the manpage kvdr(1)."

And the manpage should work similarly. Not confuse with details (like
kvdr vs. kvdr.real, blah, blah) but say what is needed to be done. Start
vdr, make sure it listens to this and that.

And in the introduction, it should mention what is the big difference to
"soft device" and "xv app", those were the terms that my fellow was
looking for, probably inspired by some well known guide. And he could
not figure out the difference between kvdr and the other vdr plugins...
so it is not really intuitive.

Eduard.
