Is that the realtime-preempt (or voluntary-preempt) patch or the
realtime-lsm module with regular preempt or both?

realtime-lsm module plus:

CONFIG_PREEMPT=y
CONFIG_PREEMPT_BKL=y

I was attempting to set the Jack transport in Rosegarden to "sync" I received the following kernel oops:

Oct 1 17:30:32 localhost kernel: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 00010007
...
snd_emu10k1_pcm_init_voice+0x1d/0x495 [snd_emu10k1] SS:ESP 0068:c51cbd68

I'm running ALSA 1.0.12 compiled from the alsa-source package.
Kernel: Linux 2.6.18

Hmmmm. Are the in-kernel alsa modules loaded or the ones you compiled
yourself?

compiled myself from:

alsa-source 1.0.12-1

I was unable to reproduce the problem unless I loaded snd-rtctimer from ALSA. I rebuilt ALSA with debugging support enabled and had the following oops:

Oct 2 14:34:28 localhost kernel: ALSA /usr/src/modules/alsa-driver/acore/seq/seq_clientmgr.c:144: Seq: oops. Trying to get pointer to client 255 Oct 2 14:41:17 localhost kernel: snd_rtctimer: module license 'unspecified' taints kernel.

That's interesting.

Oct 2 14:42:45 localhost kernel: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address 00010007
....
Oct 2 14:42:48 localhost kernel: EIP: [<d0a3676c>] snd_emu10k1_pcm_init_voice+0x1d/0x495 [snd_emu10k1] SS:ESP 0068:cd51fd68 Oct 2 14:43:09 localhost kernel: <7>ALSA
...
/usr/src/modules/alsa-driver/acore/seq/seq_clientmgr.c:144: Seq: oops. Trying to get pointer to client 255

        Robert.

It's probably more a matter of simply not using snd-rtctimer.

Arthur.
