While I was writting FAQ I realized that I gave you a wrong
suggestion.  I suppose the problem comes only when you switch to X and
then back to text mode.  However if the font on the console is
configured before X is started this doesn't happen.  Because of that
you don't have to use a font with standard size (16).  You only have
to reboot your laptop.

Thanks - then I will be able to use a smaller font than size 16 on my
20.1" external screen :).

By the way, there is another bug. Even though I have rebooted after
running dpkg-reconfigure console-setup, after switching to a console
from X, the charset is not set correctly. that is, the chars æ,ø,å are
not typed correctly until after I have run setupcon.
