I am interested in debugging this issue, but as I am new to ifupdown
hacking, I will need some more info.  Can you try to set your system
up to strace 'ifup -a' when the system hang, to find out what exactly
is triggering the hang?  This can for example be done by editing the
file /etc/init.d/networking, replacing 'ifup -a' with 'strace ifup -a'
