I was having the same problem with fireglcontrol http://bugs.debian.org/388271 and Flavio pointed me to a workaround.  
This bug is the same as http://bugs.debian.org/384325  and the work around found here 
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=384325;msg=47 fixes it.
