Bug#374692: python-sqlobject: This bug really should be fixed

I've added the provides field within the debian/control file:
Provides: ${python:Provides}

But during the build I get:
...
dpkg-gencontrol: warning: unknown substitution variable
${python:Provides}
...

What is the supposed way to enable these provides?
