Do you have the new smb.conf file, when things are working?
Definitly something in the old smb.conf was wrong. This is my NEW (ie, working) smb.conf: ................... # Samba config file created using SWAT # from 127.0.0.1 (127.0.0.1) # Date: 2006/09/24 00:09:13 [global] workgroup = CASAMARCEL server string = %h server (Samba %v) obey pam restrictions = Yes passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u passwd chat = *Enter\snew\sUNIX\spassword:* %n\n *Retype\snew\sUNIX\spassword:* %n\n *password\supdated\ssuccessfully* . syslog = 0 log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m max log size = 1000 socket options = dns proxy = No ldap ssl = no panic action = /usr/share/samba/panic-action %d invalid users = root include = /etc/samba/dhcp.conf [homes] comment = Home Directories create mask = 0700 directory mask = 0700 browseable = No [printers] comment = All Printers path = /var/spool/samba create mask = 0700 printable = Yes browseable = No [print$] comment = Printer Drivers path = /var/lib/samba/printers [amule] path = /mnt/mcrypto/Incoming valid users = marcel .................. I have copied back the old smb.conf (simply copied from the previous email I sent), restarted samba (etc/init.d/samba restart) and the PANIC returns. Then restored my new smb.conf , again restart samba and works. I will try to isolate the specific command giving that error, and I'll be back...
