Requests to upgrade packages to newer versions should normally be filed with severity "wishlist", since they are not bugs in the package. 1.8.11 contains only bug fixes that have already been made in the Debian package, so there is no reason to go through the rigamarole of fetching and packaging a new upstream release. But thanks for the report; I'm leaving this open but tagging it "wontfix" so that other people who have the same thought can see it and read this explanation.
