Also, if you are running on an architecture other than x86, tomcat4 will probably prove difficult to run right now.

Even with x86, there is additional stuff that has to be done. Google for "tomcat kaffe" to get further info. One popular link is:

None of the instructions there addressed the cause of my problem, as far as I could tell. I followed them, just in case, without any effect.
