Interesting. I just checked /etc/rc2.d/ and did not have a symlink to
/etc/init.d/makedev there. dpkg-reconfigure makedev fixed that.
Still I don't know why this symlink was not there before. I did not
remove it afaicr myself. I'm fine if this bug is closed now as it seems
to have been a problem on my side (though I can't explain the absence of
the /etc/rc2.d/S20makedev symlink).

Just out of curiosity: How can udev satisfy the dependency of
powermgmt-base (Depends: makedev | udev) if udev does not ship a MAKEDEV
script. Does udev create one on the fly if makedev is not installed?
