This was during the 'Checking for new version' phase of this exact bug report:
$ps auwwwx| grep reportbug
bill 11490 7.1 81.8 189384 91080 tty10 D+ 15:52 0:08 /usr/bin/python
-S /usr/bin/reportbug reportbug

And during the Query BTS phase:
$ps auwwwx| grep reportbug
bill 11490 12.6 74.2 111100 82616 tty10 R+ 15:52 0:20
/usr/bin/python -S /usr/bin/reportbug reportbug

It seems to me that reportbug should not need 91Mb of RAM to operate.

That is probably so, but I think it's likely a memory hogging bug in
Python proper rather than reportbug per se... there's certainly
nothing in the code that allocates 100MB.
