Package: mdadm In the templates file for mdadm, the acronym MD has been consistently translated with "multidisk". However, it really is short for "multiple devices". As a rough synonym "software RAID" is often used.
"Multiple device" is also prefered by the Debian maintainer of mdadm. In the mdadm documentation and messages the term "MD array" is now used frequently. In Google "md multiple device" gives twice as many hits as "md multiple disk".
