Package: amavisd-new
Version: 1:2.4.2-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

I have noticed this problem when I tried to stop the amavis daemon using the
usual

        /etc/init.d/amavis stop

command and it produced this output:

        Stopping amavisd: (not running).

while the amavisd was indoubtedly running. After examining the
/var/run/amavis directory, I have found out that the pid file was not
present.

Stranger though, when I killed the amavisd and started it again, the pid
file appeared in the /var/run/amavis directory for a couple of seconds
(together with the amavisd.sock) file, however, the pid file and the socket
were deleted a few seconds later by one of the amavisd forks (as proven by
strace-ing it).

The problem is not very serious, though it makes restarting amavisd using
the /etc/init.d/amavis script impossible - the script relies on the pid file
which is not present.

I will be glad to provide additional info if needed.

With best regards,
Peter
