Yes, you got it. I had installed JabRef from the upstream tarball before making the backport, and naturally I didn't remove the menu entry once I noticed that no new entry appeared... Sorry, I think this is even documented. Okay, I'll rename all my locally created menu files to <program>.local. The trick with stdout also helps here; maybe only when you know what's going on, but it also might help you understand.
