It'd be nice if the patch could be applied to 2.8.x libraries since it's very likely that Etch will ship using this libs. Moreover, current pstream (2.10.3) fixes the problem, but (according to Mike Emmel, author of the directfb backend) it would be non-trivial to backport the fix since the code has been heavily reworked.
It'd be a pity to have such an annoying problem affecting _all_ languages at the first public release of the graphical installer. Regards, Davide
