MSN does not consider this a bug. That protocol considers it a "feature," and it is supported by the official client.
Then I hereby change my feature request. Gaim should ask you, the first time it sees such duplication, if you want the duplication fixed. If you click "Remove duplicates", it should ask you how you want the duplication fixed.
