It is required until all users of /proc/bus/usb/devices and other users of /proc/bus/usb/* migrate to the new way of doing things. May I remind you that udev is not yet mandatory in Debian, so we will also have to check if udev is active on top of checking /proc/filesystems for usbfs... This is the sort of thing we should announce the deprecation, and schedule for etch+1. By that time, we will only have to support kernels that have both usbfs AND udev-class /dev/bus/usb support, and maybe Debian will even have to decide to go with mandatory udev (and udev will be trustable and stable enough to actually be mandatory, anyway ;-) ). -- "One disk to rule them all, One disk to find them.
