You say the mouse cursor is gone when closing xgalaga in gnome. How are you closing it? Clicking on the window's close icon, or pressing q in the game? Are you using mouse controls in xgalaga, or keyboard?
Seems to me that a force-kill of the program from the window manager when it's got the mouse grabbed could do this. Mine refuses to kill it then though. -- see shy jo
