Hi. I'm using Etch, and this is still hapenning. Every 2 seconds, my hard drive's led blinks. Issuing a : echo 1 > /proc/sys/vm/block_dump
shows that there is in fact no disk activity: the led is just blinking every 2 seconds, maybe to poll cdrom presence. Killing hald stops the blinking, but autodetection is no longer working. As said sooner, that's a nuisance, and polling every 2 seconds is probably not a good idea, and just a hack. I don't know how other OS are dealing with that, but I guess KDE isn't doing things the right way. cheers
