So, both client and server are blaming _each other_ for breaking the
connection.  (That is what "Connection reset by peer" means.)  This
indicates that it is quite likely caused by something that lives in
between the client and the server - a transparent HTTP proxy, a
firewall, a NAT router, something like that.

Can you try to determine whether you have any such devices on your
network?  (Note, if it's a transparent HTTP proxy provided by a third
party such as an ISP, it may not be easy to detect.)

Upstream developer Danny Berlin agrees that problem appears to be
something "in the network".
