This is strange. And I couldn't reproduce this neither on TeX live
system nor on a teTeX system, both with the latest set of binaries (ie
texlive 2005.dfsg.1-1, tetex-bin 3.0-18).
The error message suggests that this is a problem with the libpoppler
library. Which version

What version is this please? I cannot find it nowhere ...
unstabla and testing both have
0.4.5-4.1
So this is the problem. You cannot use this with a wrong version of
libpoppler. Please install the right libpoppler verion.
